🌿 Nature
“Beauty and grace are performed whether or not we will or sense them. The least we can do is try to be there.”

Dillard reminds us that natures beauty unfolds constantly; our task is simply to show up and witness.

Sometimes, the world moves with a quiet splendor that doesn't wait for our permission to exist. Annie Dillard reminds us that beauty and grace are constantly performing, unfolding in the subtle shifts of the seasons and the light filtering through the trees, regardless of whether we are paying attention or feeling worthy of them. It can be so easy to get caught up in our own internal storms, feeling too tired or too distracted to notice the magic happening right in front of us. But the beauty is there, steady and unyielding, simply waiting for us to turn our heads.

In our everyday lives, we often spend so much energy trying to create our own happiness or manufacture moments of peace. We wait for the big milestones, the perfect vacations, or the grand gestures to feel a sense of awe. Yet, the most profound grace often lives in the mundane. It is in the way the morning steam rises from a cup of tea, or the rhythmic sound of rain against a windowpane. These moments aren't asking for our validation; they are simply performing their natural, beautiful dance.

I remember a particularly heavy week I had recently, where everything felt gray and overwhelming. I felt completely disconnected from the joy I usually find in my garden. I was so wrapped up in my own worries that I didn't even notice the sunflowers were beginning to bloom. It wasn't until I forced myself to sit still on a wooden bench, breathing deeply, that I realized the garden hadn't stopped being beautiful just because I was sad. The flowers were still reaching for the sun, performing their silent, graceful work. I realized my only job wasn't to fix the world, but simply to show up and witness it.

We don't always have to be the creators of beauty; sometimes, we just need to be the audience. When life feels heavy, you don't have to force yourself to feel radiant. You don't even have to feel happy. All you have to do is try to be present enough to notice the grace that is already surrounding you. Even if you are just peering through the cracks of a difficult day, try to look for that small, unbidden spark of light.

Today, I invite you to take a tiny moment to simply be a witness. Take a deep breath and look around your immediate surroundings. Is there a single, small thing—a shadow, a color, a sound—that is performing its own quiet beauty? Just notice it. That is enough.
