The miracle is not to walk on water. The miracle is to walk on the green earth in the present moment.

Thich Nhat Hanh locates the true miracle in mindful walking on earth.

Sometimes we spend our entire lives waiting for something spectacular to happen. We wait for the big promotion, the grand romantic gesture, or a life-altering epiphany that will finally make us feel complete. We look for magic in the clouds, hoping to see something impossible, like walking on water. But as Thich Nhat Hanh so beautifully reminds us, the true miracle isn't found in defying the laws of physics or performing superhuman feats. The real magic is tucked away in the simple, quiet act of being fully present on the green earth beneath our feet.

It is so easy to let our minds drift into the past with regret or leap into the future with anxiety. We walk through our days like ghosts, haunting our own lives without ever truly inhabiting them. We sip our morning coffee while checking emails, or we sit with our loved ones while scrolling through a screen. In these moments, we are physically present, but our spirits are miles away. We miss the warmth of the mug, the sunlight hitting the table, and the actual sound of a friend's laughter. We are so busy looking for the extraordinary that we become blind to the extraordinary reality of the ordinary.

I remember a Tuesday not too long ago when I felt particularly overwhelmed. My mind was a whirlwind of 'what-ifs' and 'should-haves.' I was walking through the park, trying to force myself to feel peaceful, but my thoughts were racing toward a long list of chores. Then, I noticed a tiny ladybug crawling slowly across a bright green leaf. I stopped. I felt the cool breeze on my feathers and heard the rhythmic rustle of the trees. In that tiny, singular moment, the weight of my worries didn't disappear, but they became secondary to the simple fact that I was alive, breathing, and part of this beautiful, living world. That was my miracle.

We don't need to perform miracles to find meaning; we just need to arrive. We need to practice the art of landing in the here and now. Whether it is the feeling of the wind against your skin, the smell of rain on dry pavement, or the steady beat of your own heart, these are the gifts that are always available to us if we only remember to look. Life isn't waiting for you in some distant, magical future; it is happening right now, under your feet.

Today, I want to invite you to take a small step toward presence. As you move through your afternoon, try to find one sensation that anchors you to the earth. Feel the ground beneath your shoes or notice the color of the sky. Let yourself simply exist in this moment, without needing it to be anything other than what it is.
