The wound is the place where the Light enters you.

Rumi transforms our understanding of suffering into an opening for illumination.

There is a profound, quiet beauty in Rumi's words that always makes me pause and take a deep breath. When we think about wounds, we usually think of something to be hidden, bandaged, or forgotten as quickly as possible. We treat our pain like a flaw in our design. But Rumi suggests something much more magical. He invites us to see our cracks not as failures, but as necessary openings. Without those breaks in our armor, how could anything new, warm, or illuminating ever find its way inside our hearts?

In our everyday lives, this often shows up in the moments when we feel most broken. We might lose a job, endure a breakup, or face a sudden loss that leaves us feeling hollow. In those dark hours, it feels like the world has gone dim. However, it is precisely in that state of vulnerability that we become receptive to deeper truths. We start to develop empathy for others, we learn the value of resilience, and we begin to see the world through a lens of compassion that we never possessed when we were feeling 'perfect' and untouched by hardship.

I remember a time when I felt quite lost, much like a little duckling separated from the flock in a heavy fog. I had experienced a setback that made me feel like I had failed completely. I spent so much time trying to patch up my spirit and pretend I was fine. But as I sat with that sadness, I found myself noticing the kindness of strangers and the small, beautiful details of nature that I had previously ignored. That period of hurt became the very crack that allowed a new sense of purpose and a much softer heart to enter my life.

It is okay if you are feeling a bit fractured right now. Please don't rush to hide your scars or feel ashamed of the places where you have been hurt. Those spaces are where your wisdom is growing and where your greatest strengths are being forged. Instead of trying to seal the cracks, try to see what kind of light is beginning to peek through them. Perhaps today, you can simply sit with your pain and ask it, softly, what it is trying to teach you about the light.
