💗 Compassion
Everything belongs when seen through the eyes of compassion nothing needs to be excluded

Compassionate vision includes everything and excludes nothing.

When we look at the world, we often find ourselves acting like editors, crossing things out of our lives that feel too messy, too loud, or too different. We try to curate a perfect version of reality where only the pleasant parts are allowed to stay. But Richard Rohr reminds us of a much deeper, more beautiful truth: everything belongs when seen through the eyes of compassion. This means that compassion isn't just about being kind to others; it is a way of seeing that allows us to embrace the entire spectrum of existence, including the parts we usually try to hide or reject.

In our everyday lives, this can be incredibly challenging. We tend to exclude our own mistakes, our moments of sadness, or even the people who frustrate us from our sense of peace. We tell ourselves that we can only feel whole once we have fixed our flaws or removed the obstacles in our path. But true wholeness doesn't come from subtraction; it comes from the radical acceptance of everything as it is. When we stop trying to exclude the difficult pieces of our story, we start to see how they actually contribute to the complex tapestry of who we are.

I remember a time when I was feeling particularly overwhelmed by my own clumsiness and mistakes. I was trying so hard to be the perfect, helpful duck that I was constantly judging myself for every little slip-up. I felt like I had to exclude my imperfections to be worthy of love. It wasn't until I sat quietly and practiced just observing my mistakes with a soft, gentle heart that the tension began to melt. I realized that my mistakes didn't make me less than; they were simply part of my journey, just as much as my successes. Once I stopped fighting them, they didn't feel like enemies anymore.

This shift in perspective changes how we treat the world around us, too. It allows us to look at a stranger, a difficult coworker, or even a challenging circumstance with a sense of connection rather than judgment. It invites us to see the inherent value in every living thing, even the parts that seem broken or out of place. When we remove the boundaries of exclusion, we find ourselves standing in a much larger, more vibrant world.

Today, I invite you to take a small, gentle look at something in your life that you have been trying to push away. Instead of trying to fix it or ignore it, try to simply hold it in your gaze with a bit of warmth. See if you can find a way to let it belong, just for a moment, in the light of your own compassion.
