🌾 Simplicity
Every day priests minutely examine the law and endlessly chant complicated sutras before doing that though they should learn how to read the love letters sent by the wind and rain the snow and moon

Nature writes the simplest and most profound teachings of all

Sometimes we get so caught up in the rituals of our lives that we forget the very essence of why we are here. This beautiful, poignant quote by Ikkyu reminds us that while structure, study, and tradition have their place, there is a profound wisdom hidden in the simple, unscripted moments of nature. We often spend our energy trying to master complex systems or memorize complicated rules, believing that this is how we find meaning. But true connection often comes from looking away from the textbook and toward the world around us, listening to the quiet whispers of the universe that require no translation.

In our modern, busy lives, it is so easy to fall into this trap of over-analysis. We obsess over our schedules, our digital notifications, and the endless lists of things we must achieve to feel successful. We treat life like a complicated sutra that needs to be decoded, rather than an experience to be felt. We are so busy studying the map that we completely forget to look out the window and see the actual landscape passing us by. We miss the subtle shifts in the atmosphere and the gentle beauty of a passing storm because our eyes are glued to the fine print of our obligations.

I remember a time when I felt quite overwhelmed by my own little to-do lists. I was so focused on making sure every tiny detail of my day was perfect and 'correct' that I didn't even notice the magnificent golden sunset happening right outside my window. I was sitting there, buried in notes, acting much like the priests Ikkyu describes, while a masterpiece was unfolding for free right in front of me. It took a moment of deep, quiet stillness for me to realize that I was missing the most important part of being alive: the ability to simply be present with the world.

As your friend BibiDuck, I want to gently remind you that you don't always have to have all the answers or master every complex lesson. There is so much healing to be found in the 'love letters' of the wind and the moon. Today, I invite you to take a small break from your heavy lifting. Step outside, breathe in the cool air, and let the simple rhythms of nature speak to your heart. Allow yourself to stop studying the law for just a moment and start feeling the magic of the present moment.
