💗 Compassion
I slept and dreamt that life was joy then I awoke and saw that life was service through compassion

True joy comes through compassionate service to others.

Have you ever had one of those beautiful, golden dreams where everything feels effortless and perfect? In those moments, life feels like a pure, sparkling stream of joy, where nothing weighs on your heart. Rabindranath Tagore’s words remind us that while that dream of pure, selfish happiness is lovely, the true awakening happens when we realize that our purpose is found in something much deeper. He suggests that the real magic of being alive isn't just about how much happiness we can collect for ourselves, but about how much compassion we can extend to the world around us.

It is so easy to get caught up in chasing our own little bubbles of comfort. We work hard to make our lives smooth, our homes cozy, and our personal joys abundant. But if we stay only within that bubble, we might find ourselves feeling strangely empty, even when everything is going well. The shift from seeking joy to practicing service doesn't mean we have to give up our happiness; rather, it means we find a much more resilient, soulful kind of joy that comes from being useful to others. It turns life from a solo performance into a beautiful, shared symphony.

I remember a Tuesday afternoon when I was feeling quite overwhelmed by my own little worries. I was sitting by the pond, feeling a bit stuck in my own head, when I saw a tiny bird struggling to find food in the frost. I decided to set aside my heavy thoughts for just a moment to prepare some seeds. In that small, simple act of caring for a tiny creature, my own heaviness began to lift. The focus shifted from my internal storm to an external act of kindness. That tiny moment of service changed the entire texture of my day, turning a lonely morning into a meaningful one.

We don't need to perform grand, heroic gestures to live out this quote. Service can be as simple as listening to a friend who is grieving, leaving a kind note for a stranger, or even just offering a warm smile to someone passing by in the street. These small ripples of compassion eventually create waves of change in our own hearts and in the lives of others. When we look for ways to be kind, we stop being spectators of life and start becoming active participants in its healing.

Today, I want to encourage you to look for one small way to be a light for someone else. As you move through your day, ask yourself how you can turn a moment of your own time into a moment of service. You might find that in the process of tending to the needs of others, you accidentally find the very joy you were dreaming of all along.
