😊 Happiness
Happiness is the absence of the striving for happiness.

Zhuangzi presents the paradox that ceasing to chase happiness brings it closer.

Sometimes, we treat happiness like a destination on a map, a far-off city we are constantly driving toward, checking our GPS every few minutes to see if we have arrived. We think that if we just work a little harder, buy a slightly nicer car, or reach a specific milestone, we will finally arrive at the land of joy. But Zhuangzi offers us a beautiful, quiet truth: happiness isn't something you chase; it is what remains when you stop running. It is the stillness that settles in when you stop demanding that every moment be extraordinary.

In our modern, busy lives, we are often taught to be strivers. We are told to optimize our morning routines, to maximize our productivity, and to hunt for every ounce of pleasure we can find. This constant searching can actually create a strange kind of tension within us. We become so focused on the pursuit of feeling good that we forget how to simply be. We become spectators of our own lives, watching the clock and waiting for the next big spark, rather than feeling the warmth of the sun on our skin right now.

I remember a time when I was feeling quite overwhelmed, much like a little duck lost in a heavy fog. I was obsessing over my to-do list, constantly worrying about whether I was doing enough to be 'successful' or 'happy.' I was so busy striving for a perfect version of my life that I didn't even notice the beautiful wildflowers growing by the path. It wasn't until I sat down, took a deep breath, and decided to stop trying to force a smile that the peace actually found me. The joy came from the quiet moment of surrender, not from completing the list.

When we release the pressure to be constantly happy, we create space for contentment to grow. Contentment doesn't need a spotlight or a fanfare; it lives in the quiet gaps between our tasks, in the warmth of a cup of tea, or in a comfortable silence with a friend. By letting go of the chase, we allow ourselves to inhabit the present moment fully, without the heavy weight of expectation dragging behind us.

Today, I want to encourage you to take a tiny break from the pursuit. Perhaps you can find one moment where you don't try to improve anything or achieve anything. Just sit, breathe, and let yourself exist. See if, in that absence of striving, you might find a little bit of peace waiting for you.
