Choose to be optimistic it feels better

Deliberately choosing an optimistic passionate outlook creates a more enjoyable experience of life.

Have you ever noticed how heavy your heart feels when you focus solely on the clouds blocking the sun? The Dalai Lama once said, Choose to be optimistic, it feels better, and there is such a profound, simple truth tucked inside those words. Optimism isn't about ignoring the rain or pretending that problems don't exist. Instead, it is a conscious decision to look for the light even when the shadows seem long. It is about choosing a perspective that nourables your soul rather than one that drains your energy.

In our everyday lives, it is so easy to fall into the trap of 'doom-scrolling' or dwelling on every little mistake we made during the day. We tend to replay our failures on a loop, which can make even the smallest hurdle feel like an insurmountable mountain. When we choose pessimism, we are essentially choosing to carry a heavy backpack of stones everywhere we go. It makes every step harder and every breath more labored. But when we pivot toward optimism, we aren't just changing our thoughts; we are changing our entire physical and emotional experience of the world.

I remember a Tuesday not too long ago when everything seemed to be going wrong. I spilled my favorite tea, missed my bus, and felt a wave of frustration washing over me. I was spiraling into a very dark, grumpy mood. Then, I caught my reflection in a window and remembered this very quote. I took a deep breath and decided to look for one small good thing. I noticed a tiny yellow wildflower growing through a crack in the sidewalk. That tiny moment of beauty shifted my entire trajectory for the rest of the day. It didn't fix my spilled tea, but it fixed my spirit.

As your friend BibiDuck, I want to remind you that you have the power to steer your own internal weather. You might not be able to control the traffic, the weather, or the actions of others, but you are the captain of your own outlook. Choosing optimism is an act of self-care. It is a way of saying to yourself that you deserve to feel peace and hope.

Today, I want to invite you to try a little experiment. When a negative thought enters your mind, acknowledge it, but then intentionally follow it up with one hopeful possibility. See how much lighter your heart feels when you give optimism a seat at the table.
