“Let us be grateful to the people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.”
Think about those people who just make everything feel lighter when they're around. They're literally tending to your soul like a garden. Maybe text one of them today and let them know how much they mean to you. 💛
Have you ever stopped to think about the people who act like sunshine in your life? Marcel Proust had such a beautiful way of describing this when he called them the charming gardeners of our souls. To me, this means that happiness isn't just something that happens to us by chance; it is often nurtured by the hands of others. Just like a garden needs tending, our inner joy needs the warmth of companionship, the water of kind words, and the gentle pruning of support to truly bloom. When we recognize these people, we start to see the world through much more colorful lenses.
In our busy, everyday lives, it is so easy to get caught up in the weeds of stress and chores. We focus so much on the tasks at hand that we forget to look at the flowers blooming right next to us. We might be rushing to a meeting or worrying about a deadline, completely missing the fact that a friend just sent us a silly text or a colleague offered a genuine compliment. These small, beautiful moments are the seeds of our happiness, and they are planted by the people who take the time to care about our well-being.
I remember a particularly gloomy Tuesday a few weeks ago when I was feeling quite overwhelmed. My feathers felt a bit ruffled, and I was stuck in a loop of negative thoughts. Then, a dear friend dropped by unexpectedly with nothing but a warm cup of tea and a funny story about a clumsy squirrel. She didn't try to fix my problems or give me a lecture; she simply sat with me and shared her light. In that moment, I felt my soul beginning to blossom again. She was that gardener, tending to my spirit without even needing a shovel or a watering can.
It is such a gift to realize that we don't have to grow our joy all by ourselves. We are part of a beautiful, interconnected ecosystem of care. When we acknowledge the gardeners in our lives, we strengthen those bonds and encourage even more beauty to grow. It makes the garden of our lives much more resilient against the storms of life.
Today, I want to encourage you to take a tiny moment to look around your own garden. Is there someone who has recently brought a smile to your face or eased a heavy heart? Perhaps send them a quick message or give them a little call just to say thank you. Let them know that you see the beautiful work they are doing in your life. A little gratitude can go a long way in making sure those blossoms stay bright for a long time to come.
