We must be willing to let go of the life we have planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us.

Campbell encourages releasing rigid plans to embrace unexpected opportunities.

Sometimes, the most beautiful parts of our journey are the ones we never saw coming. We spend so much of our lives building these elaborate blueprints, sketching out exactly how our careers, relationships, and even our daily routines should look. We hold onto these plans with such tight fists that our knuckles turn white, fearing that if we let go, we will simply drift into nothingness. But Joseph Campbell reminds us of a profound truth: the life we are meant to live often requires us to release the grip we have on the life we thought we wanted.

It is incredibly difficult to embrace uncertainty. In our everyday lives, we crave the comfort of the predictable. We like knowing that our Monday mornings will look a certain way and that our long-term goals are steadily within reach. When a sudden change occurs—perhaps a job loss, a breakup, or a sudden shift in our health—it feels like our entire world is collapsing. We mourn the loss of the version of ourselves that existed within that original plan. We feel lost, as if the map we were following has been tossed into a stormy sea.

I remember a time when I felt completely stuck, much like a little duckling lost in a thick fog. I had worked so hard to establish a specific routine and a certain set of expectations for my creative life. When those plans fell through due to circumstances entirely out of my control, I felt a deep sense of failure. I spent weeks grieving the loss of my 'perfect' future. However, as the dust settled, I found myself exploring new hobbies and meeting wonderful people I never would have encountered if I had stayed on my original, rigid path. The space left by my old plans became the fertile soil where new, unexpected joys could grow.

Letting go doesn't mean giving up or being passive; it means being brave enough to trust the unfolding of your own story. It is an act of profound faith to believe that the unknown holds something even better than the known. When we stop fighting the current and start swimming with the flow of life, we often find ourselves arriving at destinations far more breathtaking than anything we could have mapped out ourselves.

Today, I want to invite you to take a gentle look at where you might be holding on too tightly. Is there a dream or a plan that is causing you more grief than growth? Perhaps you can try a small experiment in surrender. Take one deep breath and simply acknowledge that it is okay to let the old blueprint fade, making room for the beautiful, unwritten chapters that are waiting just for you.
