🌸 Kindness
“Compassion is not a relationship between the healer and the wounded it is a relationship between equals”

True kindness sees no hierarchy between giver and receiver.

When I first read this beautiful words by Pema Chodron, I felt a little flutter in my chest. It is so easy to fall into the trap of thinking that helping someone means standing above them, looking down with pity, or acting as the one who has all the answers. We often label ourselves as the strong ones and others as the fragile ones, but true compassion doesn't work that way. It isn't about being a hero rescuing a victim; it is about sitting down in the dirt together and acknowledging that we are both navigating this messy, beautiful, and sometimes painful human experience side by side.

In our everyday lives, we see this tension all the time. We might try to 'fix' a friend who is grieving or offer unsolicited advice to a colleague who is stressed, thinking we are being kind. But in doing so, we unintentionally create a distance. We build a wall between 'us' and 'them.' Real connection happens when we drop the need to be the expert and instead simply offer our presence. It is about recognizing that the person struggling is just as much a part of the human fabric as we are, carrying their own weight and their own wisdom.

I remember a time when I felt quite overwhelmed by a personal setback. A dear friend came over, and instead of telling me how to solve my problems or comparing my struggle to something much worse, she simply sat on the sofa with me. She didn't try to perform surgery on my sadness. She just stayed. In that quiet moment, I didn't feel like a patient being healed; I felt seen. We were just two souls sharing a moment of stillness. That is the magic of equality in compassion. It removes the hierarchy and replaces it with a profound sense of belonging.

As you move through your day, I invite you to look at the people around you through this new lens. If you see someone struggling, try to resist the urge to play the role of the mighty healer. Instead, try to find the common ground. Ask yourself how you can simply be an equal companion in their moment. Sometimes, the most healing thing you can offer is not a solution, but the gentle realization that neither of you has to carry the weight of the world alone.
