“No bird soars too high if he soars with his own wings.”

Blake assures us that authentic self-expression knows no upper limit.

There is something so incredibly liberating about the idea that our true potential isn't measured by how much higher we climb than others, but by how much we rely on our own strength. William Blake’s words remind us that the height of our achievements matters far less than the authenticity of our journey. When we use our own wings, we aren't just moving upward; we are moving in a way that is true to our very essence. It is easy to get caught up in looking at the birds soaring in distant skies and feeling like we are falling short, but the magic happens when we stop comparing our altitude to theirs and start focusing on the rhythm of our own flight.

In our everyday lives, we often find ourselves trying to adopt someone else's way of living, working, or loving. We see a friend's success or a colleague's effortless confidence and try to mimic their movements, hoping to reach the same heights. But when we try to fly using someone else's feathers, we end up exhausted and disconnected from ourselves. We might reach a high point, but it feels hollow because it wasn't our own power that carried us there. Real growth and lasting change only happen when we embrace our unique capabilities, even if they feel smaller or slower than the person next to us.

I remember a time when I felt quite overwhelmed by a new project. I kept looking at others who seemed to navigate complex tasks with such ease, and I felt like a tiny duckling struggling to keep up with the big swans. I tried to force myself to act like them, suppressing my own cautious, thoughtful nature to appear more decisive. But the more I tried to use their 'wings,' the more lost I became. It wasn't until I embraced my own way of processing things—taking my time, being meticulous, and leaning into my natural empathy—that I actually found my rhythm. Once I stopped trying to soar like a swan and started flapping my own little wings, I found a sense of peace and a much more sustainable way to succeed.

As you move through your week, I want to encourage you to take a moment to look inward. Are you trying to reach a goal using someone else's methods, or are you trusting your own unique abilities? It is okay if your flight looks different from everyone else's. It is even okay if you are still learning how to spread your wings. Just remember that as long as you are using your own strength, there is no limit to how beautiful your journey can be. Take a deep breath and trust your own wings today.
