“Incredible change happens in your life when you decide to take control of what you do have power over instead of craving control over what you don't.”

Focus on what you can change. That's where your true power lies.

Have you ever felt like you were caught in a heavy storm, trying desperately to stop the rain from falling? It is such an exhausting way to live, isn't it? This beautiful quote by Steve Maraboli reminds us that much of our stress comes from trying to steer the wind or command the tides. We spend so much precious energy worrying about the economy, the opinions of strangers, or the timing of the universe. But true, incredible change doesn't come from fixing the world outside of us; it starts the moment we turn our gaze inward and focus on the small, manageable pieces of our own lives that we actually hold in our hands.

Think about a typical Monday morning. You might wake up to a flat tire, a spilled cup of coffee, or a sudden change in your work schedule. If you spend your entire day grumbling about the unfairness of the traffic or the bad luck of the spill, you have essentially handed your happiness over to a piece of rubber or a puddle of caffeine. You are letting things you cannot control dictate your inner peace. However, when you shift your focus to how you respond—choosng to breathe deeply, calling for help, or simply deciding to start your day with kindness despite the mess—you reclaim your power. That is where the magic lives.

I remember a time when I felt quite overwhelmed by a big project. I was so preoccupied with whether people would like the end result or if everything would go perfectly that I couldn't even begin to work. I was stuck in that loop of craving control over the outcome. It wasn't until I stopped worrying about the 'what ifs' and focused solely on the next single sentence I needed to write that the weight lifted. By focusing on my own effort and my own schedule, the chaos of the potential outcome stopped being so scary. I realized that while I couldn't control the applause, I could certainly control the craftsmanship.

As you move through your week, I want to invite you to take a little inventory of your worries. When you feel that familiar tightness in your chest, ask yourself: Is this something I can actually change with my own actions? If the answer is no, try to gently release it. Instead, look for the small things you can influence, like your breathing, your kindness, or your next small step. You might be surprised at how much more beautiful and stable your world feels when you stop fighting the storm and start tending to your own little garden.
