“I dont think that architecture is only about shelter but also about the pleasure of discovery”

Creative architecture transforms space into an experience of wonder.

When I first read this beautiful thought by Zaha Hadid, I felt a little flutter in my wings. We often think of the spaces we inhabit as mere containers for our lives, places to keep us dry from the rain or safe from the wind. But Hadid reminds us that the structures around us hold a much deeper magic. They aren't just about walls and roofs; they are about the way a hallway curves, the way light hits a corner, or the sudden, delightful surprise of a hidden courtyard. It is about the joy that comes when a space invites us to explore and wonder.

In our everyday lives, we can apply this same philosophy to how we view our routines and our environments. It is so easy to fall into the habit of seeing our homes or our workplaces as just functional settings for our tasks. We walk the same paths to the kitchen, sit at the same desk, and follow the same predictable routes. But what if we looked for the architecture of discovery in our own lives? What if we treated our daily surroundings as a landscape waiting to be rediscovered, rather than just a series of utility zones?

I remember a time when I was feeling quite stuck in a rut, feeling as though my little corner of the world had become incredibly small and uninspiring. Everything felt purely functional and quite dull. One afternoon, I decided to rearrange a few things in my reading nook and intentionally sat in a different chair to look at my room from a new angle. Suddenly, the way the afternoon sun danced across the floorboards felt like a brand new discovery. It was a tiny shift, but it changed the entire energy of my space from a mere room to a place of wonder.

We don't always need grand cathedrals or avant-garde museums to experience this pleasure. We just need to change our perspective. We can find discovery in the way a new plant grows toward the window or how a different arrangement of books creates a new sense of coziness. It is about finding the art in the ordinary and letting the spaces we inhabit spark our curiosity.

Today, I want to gently nudge you to take a moment to look around your current surroundings. Is there a corner of your room or a path in your neighborhood that you have stopped truly seeing? Try to walk through your day as if you are an explorer in a new land, looking for those small, beautiful architectural surprises that make life more than just a shelter.
