☮️ Peace
“No man ever steps in the same river twice for it is not the same river and he is not the same man. This is the peace of change.”

Heraclitus finds peace in accepting the constant flow of change.

Have you ever sat by a flowing stream and felt like you were looking at something familiar, only to realize that every ripple and every droplet is brand new? Heraclitus captured this beautiful truth so perfectly when he spoke about how we can never step into the same river twice. It is a profound reminder that change isn't just something that happens to us from the outside; it is happening within us, too. Every breath we take, every lesson we learn, and every heartache we overcome reshapes our very soul. When we stop fighting the current and start embracing the flow, we find a deep, quiet peace that settles in our hearts.

In our busy, everyday lives, we often spend so much energy trying to hold onto the past. We cling to how things used to be, how people used to treat us, or how we used to feel. We treat our lives like a photograph that we want to keep frozen in time, fearing that if things change, we will lose ourselves. But the truth is, the person you were yesterday is already a memory, and the person you are becoming is waiting for you to notice them. Change is not a loss of identity, but an expansion of it.

I remember a time when I felt quite stuck, much like a little duck caught in a heavy fog. I was mourning a version of my life that had ended, desperately trying to find my way back to a 'me' that no longer existed. I kept looking for the same old comforts, the same old routines, hoping they would make me feel whole again. But as the days passed, I realized that the fog wasn't meant to trap me; it was meant to transition me. Just like the river, my circumstances were shifting, and I had to learn to swim with the new rhythm of my life rather than struggling against it.

It can be scary to realize that nothing stays the same, but there is so much freedom in that realization. If you are going through a difficult season right now, please remember that this version of the river is only passing through. You are not stuck in this moment forever, and you are not the same person who started this journey. You are evolving, growing, and finding new depths every single day.

As you go about your day, I want to invite you to take a moment and notice one small way you have changed recently. Perhaps you are more patient, or perhaps you have learned to set a new boundary. Instead of mourning the old version of yourself, try to offer a little gratitude to the new person you are becoming. Embrace the flow, dear friend, and let the peace of change carry you home.
