🤲 Acceptance
“Let me not pray to be sheltered from dangers but to be fearless in facing them”

Accepting dangers rather than avoiding them builds true courage.

Sometimes, when life feels particularly heavy, our first instinct is to look for a way out. We find ourselves whispering prayers or making wishes that the storm will simply pass us by, or that the obstacles in our path will magically vanish. We crave a life of smooth sailing and quiet waters, believing that true peace can only exist if we are shielded from every possible hardship. But there is a profound difference between seeking safety and seeking strength. Tagore’s beautiful words remind us that the goal of a meaningful life isn't to avoid the rain, but to learn how to dance in it with a heart that refuses to tremble.

In our everyday lives, this often shows up in the way we approach our fears. We might avoid applying for that dream job because we are afraid of rejection, or we might stay silent in a difficult conversation because we want to avoid conflict. We try to build walls around our hearts to keep the discomfort out, but in doing so, we accidentally lock our courage in, too. When we only pray for shelter, we miss out on the incredible growth that only happens when we are tested. The danger isn't just outside of us; the real danger is the shrinking of our own potential because we are too afraid to step into the wind.

I remember a time when I felt quite small, much like a little duckling facing a very large pond for the first time. I was so worried about the ripples and the unexpected splashes that I stayed tucked away in the reeds, feeling safe but incredibly lonely. I realized that while the reeds protected me, they also prevented me from ever experiencing the joy of gliding across the water or meeting new friends. It wasn't until I decided to face the ripples—to accept that the water might be bumpy—that I truly started to feel alive. I didn't need the pond to be still; I just needed to trust my own ability to swim.

This shift in perspective changes everything. Instead of asking for the weight to be lifted, try asking for the strength to carry it. Instead of wishing for the path to be flat, ask for the steady feet to climb the hills. When we stop viewing challenges as enemies to be avoided and start seeing them as opportunities to prove our resilience, the world becomes a much more expansive and exciting place. There is a unique kind of magic that happens when you realize you are much tougher than you ever gave yourself credit for.

Today, I want to encourage you to take a look at one thing you have been avoiding because it feels a bit too scary. Instead of hoping it goes away, try asking yourself what kind of courage you need to face it head-on. You don't need a shield to be safe; you just need the bravery to keep moving forward, one small, fearless step at a time.
