🌊 Resilience
“To be fully alive fully human and completely awake is to be continually thrown out of the nest”

Being pushed beyond comfort is not punishment it is the process of becoming fully alive

There is something so incredibly scary about the moment we lose our grip on what feels safe. Pema Chodron’s beautiful words remind us that true vitality doesn't come from staying tucked away in a cozy, predictable corner of the world. Instead, being fully alive means embracing the moments when life pushes us out of our comfort zones, forcing us to find our wings even when we feel unprepared. It is in that sudden, shaky transition from the known to the unknown that we truly begin to wake up to our own strength.

In our everyday lives, being thrown out of the nest might look like a sudden job loss, the end of a long relationship, or even just a change in perspective that makes our old habits feel too small for us. We often spend so much energy trying to build higher walls and thicker blankets to protect ourselves from change. We mistake stability for safety, but true safety is actually found in our ability to navigate the turbulence. When we stop resisting the wind and start learning how to fly within it, the world opens up in ways we never imagined possible.

I remember a time when I felt very much like a little duckling facing a storm. I had a very specific plan for how my life was supposed to unfold, and when things started to shift unexpectedly, I felt completely lost and untethered. I wanted to retreat back into the warmth of my old routines and hide from the uncertainty. But as I sat with that discomfort, I realized that the discomfort was actually a signal. It was telling me that I had outgrown my old nest. The very thing that felt like a fall was actually a launch.

It is okay to feel shaky and a little bit breathless when life disrupts your peace. You don't have to have all the answers the moment you hit the ground. All you need to do is acknowledge that this moment of vulnerability is actually a profound opportunity for growth. The discomfort is proof that you are participating in the messy, beautiful, and vibrant experience of being human.

Today, I want to encourage you to look at one area of your life where you feel unsettled. Instead of trying to rush back to the comfort of the familiar, try to sit with the uncertainty for just a moment. Ask yourself what this new landscape might be teaching you. You might find that you are much more capable of flight than you ever gave yourself credit for.
